Noel is a quilter, and became interested in barn quilt squares in 2013 when she painted a small quilt square for her home. She was Chair of the local community foundation from 2013-2014, and did some research on Barn Quilt Trails. She found that Minnesota had very few quilt trails, mostly in our southern counties. In 2013, the foundation’s Highway 8 Chairs project was underway, and a few board members proposed that our next project to showcase our local artists and businesses should be a Barn Quilt Trail. A committee was formed in 2014, and through a partnership with David Oaks the quilt trail has become a reality!
The “Star of Bethlehem” is a very old, beloved quilt pattern that came to America from Europe. The universal symbol, the star, is probably the single most popular design chosen by quilters.
Noel is a former school board member, and in addition to serving on the Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation board and on the Steering Committee for Future Walk – Chisago Lakes, she is helping to demonstrate that this is indeed one of America’s Best Communities!
